I recently bought a house with an Ideal boiler and a wireless thermostat called a “Halo”. The boiler has a “Halo Smart Interface” fitted into it, which should tell the boiler when to fire. The Halo itself contains the thermostat and communicates with the Smart Interface using Zigbee.
During some decorating work the thermostat became disconnected from the boiler. This really confused the boiler, causing it to remain on, burning gas, indefinitely. This is quite concerning and doesn’t give me much faith in the system, but that’s a future problem. Right now I just need it to work.
To try to get the thermostat connected again I tried lots of things but eventually resorted to completely resetting the Smart Interface. You can find out how to do this online: you hold the two buttons on the Smart Interface for 20 seconds.
But the problem is I had the batteries removed from the thermostat when I did this. This put the thermostat into a state where it still thought it was paired, while the Smart Interface was unpaired.
I couldn’t find anything about how to reset the thermostat itself. Leaving the batteries out does nothing. But I couldn’t believe they wouldn’t include some way to do it, so I tried lots of things and eventually found out how.
So on the very small chance someone finds this, to reset the Halo Thermostat, put the batteries in, then while it’s on hold the middle and right buttons down for about 15-20 seconds. It should go back to the setup screen.
Happy boiling.
